Medical Billing Specialist - Overview

Program Duration: 3 Months

The Medical Billing Specialist Program is a three-month, video based training series designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully pursue a career in the healthcare industry, with a specific focus on Medical Billing support. Additionally, students are well prepared to take nationally recognized certification exams like the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) exam, administered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

This 3-Month online training program provides training in areas including Human Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, and Insurance Billing and Coding Essentials. Upon completion of the program, you will have obtained the skills and knowledge required to obtain certifications leading to a new career in a variety of health care fields related to medical billing and insurance reimbursement.

Students receive ongoing mentoring support from a Subject Matter Expert through Live Chat or email communication throughout their enrollment.

Perform secretarial duties utilizing specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Duties include scheduling appointments, billing patients, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence.

What is MyCAA Funding?

The Military Spouses Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) program sets out to prepare eligible military spouses for the workforce by offering up to $4,000 of Financial Assistance (FA) from the Department of Defense (DoD). This is meant to encourage spouses of military personnel to pursue education, training, licenses, certificates and degrees leading to employment in Portable Career fields. The MyCAA program uses this funding to pay schools directly for coursework and exams taken by the approved spouse account owner.

Who is eligible for funding?

An eligible MyCAA candidate is the spouse of an active duty Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine service member, or activated Reserve member in pay grades E1-E5, W1-W2, O1-O2.

If you are the spouse of National Guard and/or AGR member, the sponsor must be on federal Title 10 active duty orders as reported in DEERS.

Spouses of Guard/Reserve members in an Alert, Transition Assistance, or Post Deployment status are not eligible.

MyCAA accounts will be limited to the new $4,000 maximum benefit with a $2000 fiscal year cap. Waivers to the fiscal year cap will be available for spouses pursuing licensure or certification with a cost that exceeds the $2,000 fiscal year cap up to the total maximum assistance of $4,000.

Spouses must finish their program of study within three years from the start date of the first course.

Funding is limited to only Associate’s degrees, certifications and licensure programs.

How do I establish a MyCAA Account?

Visit the MyCAA Spouse Portal online at https://aiportal.acc.af.mil/mycaa. The first step is to read the MyCAA Fact Sheet, and then a real-time DEERS eligibility check will determine if you are eligible to establish an account. If eligible, you will be required to read and sign the MyCAA Spouse Terms and Conditions Agreement. For guidance with MyCAA Funding, eligible Military Spouse’s should contact a MyCAA Career and Education Consultant for assistance.
